THE ETIQUETTE OF COMPLIMENT

To effectively give or receive compliments, one has to possess self confidence, poise and style. Compliments cost nothing and yet mean everything to both the receiver and the giver. When meeting a stranger, compliments help you start a conversion, it also helps diffuse stress, comfort, motivate and generally reward, inspire and uplift people’s spirits. Unlike flattery, compliments are sincere and usually leaves the recipient and giver feeling good. 

Compliments are priceless and should be given and received graciously. 

The DOs

  • Be generous with your compliments. 
  • Be sincere and mean it. 
  • Be careful to use the right words that buttress your intentions. 
  • Ensure your words and body language are in consonance.

The DON’Ts 

  • Don’t be stingy with compliments. 
  • Don’t give reverse compliments. 
  • Don’t interrupt while you are being complimented. 
  • Don’t exaggerate or flatter. 
  • Don’t respond with negative comments or ugly truths. 
  • Avoid comments or compliments that revolve around sensitive topics  like weight, pregnancy, perfume, style of dressing etc. 

The best way to respond to a Compliment is by saying a simple “Thank You” with a smile.

Compliments are powerful gifts especially when given and received properly.
